Financial Information

As we entered 2009, The Southeast Alabama Gas District was in a unique situation relative to many other companies throughout our service area, the state and country. Barring any major weather events, we knew we would have a relatively strong and successful year. And, SEAGD did. Our focus throughout Fiscal 2009 was on keeping rates as low as possible for all users, deliberately maintaining our system and consistently working to retain our customer base. Every month during Fiscal 2009 saw a drop in natural gas rates for all tariff customers. Commercial and Residential rates decreased by 38 percent throughout Fiscal 2009, and during the same period, SEAGD retired an extra $2,000,000 in principal payment on bonds that were issued to fund our Black Warrior Basin gas wells. The performance of these wells allowed our extra principal payment, and our vision is to fully retire the bonds in 2013, ten years ahead of the initial schedule. SEAGD invested more than $1,000,000 in infrastructure upgrades during Fiscal 2009 because we are committed to the safety of our communities and the integrity of our system. SEAGD's talented team of employees remained focused on strong performance and met a company-wide challenge to increase natural gas load in our existing residential market, boosting water heater sales by 63% over the previous year's sales. Our employees also worked to meet the needs of our communities beyond their energy needs. Our focus on the future goes beyond system upgrades and gas load, as is evidenced by the hundreds of volunteer hours SEAGD employees logged as they built homes for Habitat For Humanity, gave children in Dothan a better place to play and learn at Landmark Park and fought the valiant fight against cancer through The American Cancer Society's Relay For Life. SEAGD remains laser-focused on the opportunities that await us in the future, and we look forward to that future with assurance and confidence!
