The Southeast Alabama Gas District was created January 29, 1952, as a vehicle for driving economic development in the southeast quadrant of Alabama. Since that time, SEAGD has grown it’s assets to the $1.4 Billion A+ rated (Standard and Poor's) company we are today, with more than $150 Million in revenues for fiscal 2010.
Our company is owned by 14 cities committed to the growth and success of our region. In addition to those owner cities, SEAGD serves 19 other communities through more than 600 miles of transmission lines, and more than 1,400 miles of distribution lines which deliver service to 30,000 customers. Our company's footprint spans more than 12,000 square miles, and reaches a population in excess of 900,000.
In the past seven years, SEAGD has made a direct economic impact on Alabama. We have returned more than $24,000,000 to owner cities, franchise member cities and community-based economic development agencies. All this was done while at the same time keeping rates competitive, and on average lower than those of investor-owned utilities during the past three years.
Owner cities have SEAGD Board representation, and all but one of our 14 Board members also serve as Mayors or Councilmen for their cities. Our Board Chair has served six consecutive terms (24 years). In addition, all SEAGD Senior Management team members have 20 or more years of utility experience.
